Hannah’s Story

From a Tent to a Place to Call Home

It was the middle of winter, when Hannah (not her real name) walked into Jericho Road Ministries. For nearly two years she had been homeless after being evicted with three young children – just 2, 5, and 7 years old.

To protect privacy, this is a representative photo and not the actual individual.

They were currently living in one of the Twin Cities tent encampments. When winter temperatures plunged, she would bundle the kids into her van, running the engine as much as she could afford, until it was warm enough for them to go back outside to their tent.

She received a small amount of child support, but not enough to save for the steep upfront costs of moving into most apartments. No longer eligible for public assistance, every door seemed to close. Yet, Hannah kept searching.

She had finally found an apartment she could afford. But there was one more roadblock. All her belongings – furniture, clothing, household items – were locked in a storage unit she could no longer afford. If the overdue balance wasn’t paid soon, everything would be auctioned off before she could even move in.

Because of your generosity, she didn’t lose everything.

After confirming the details, Jericho Road staff paid the storage fees so her belongings would be waiting for her when she received the keys to her new home. We also provided food for the family and spent time praying with her – which she received with gratitude.

Your support helped a young mother move her children out of a tent, into stable housing, and into a future filled with hope rather than fear.

Thank you for walking with neighbors like Hannah when the journey feels impossible.
