Our History
On a cold Monday in January 2011, six people gathered to pray; their hearts stirred by Jesus’ parable of the Good Samaritan in Luke 10. Their desire was simple yet bold: to serve their neighbors with compassion – addressing hunger, offering gospel hope, and walking alongside people to meet physical, emotional, and spiritual needs.
From that small prayer gathering, Jericho Road Ministries was born. A donated ministry space soon became a hub for food storage, a pantry, and a place to meet with neighbors and hear their stories. More than a decade later, Jericho Road has become a trusted model of mercy ministry in the Twin Cities – bringing churches, businesses, and the community together to provide practical help and dignity-filled care for our urban neighbors.
Our Name
The road from Jerusalem to Jericho – known as the “Jericho Road” – is the setting of the Good Samaritan story. A man is attacked, left alone, and passed by until an unlikely traveler stops, shows compassion, and meets his needs with mercy and care.
This is the heart behind our name and our work.
In the diverse and often challenging neighborhoods of Minneapolis, many families face difficult circumstances, feeling alone or overwhelmed. Jericho Road Ministries seeks to meet our neighbors on their Jericho Road – offering practical support, spiritual encouragement, and a pathway from crisis toward lasting hope in Christ.
Mission
To joyfully lead people from crisis to Christ-centered hope and restoration.
Vision
For families and individuals to be nutritionally fed, housed, clothed, gainfully employed, community-minded, freed in Christ, and part of a local church.
Jericho Road Ministries is a ministry of CityJoy and holds to these values and beliefs.
